Olivey news that caught Geoffs eye

New Zealand says "no thanks" to Olive Oil standards. While Australian olive oil producers celebrated the adoption of a new set of voluntary standards that will make it more difficult for European exporters to do business there, its sibling on the other side of the Tasman Sea isn’t along for the ride.

Rajistan now producing olives Click through to The Times of India to read this brief article on the newest global location to grow olives.  I'm not sure why they are growing olives because this article Andalusian Olive Oil producers Facing Fourth Straight Year of Losses (of 600 million Euro!) would suggest that it may be hard to post a profit.  Especially when the International Olive Council predicts second biggest year ever for olive oil production with a total production of 3.08 million tons.  Who's the biggest producer? Spain (at 45% of world production).

The rise of olive oil baking caught my eye, some beautiful ideas for baking and desserts.  Whats more, you can enjoy guilt free eating of your baking due to this interesting research on olive oil keeping the heart young, reducing type 2 diabetes, and preventing strokes.

Telegraph Hill welcome Canada rugby team to Hawke's Bay

Olivery Shop DisplayAs part of the Rugby World Cup business initiative to 'Support a Second Team' we have dressed up the Olivery in Canadian flags and created a Canadian Olive.  The olive has been given a Canadian twist using imported maple wood chips to smoke the olives.  Distinctively packaged with the Maple leaf this has wonderful; sweet smokey flavours with tones of golden syrup and honey bacon.  We found that different wood chips do produce very different flavours!Shop Maple Olives

These olives are only available through the Olivery shop.

We've been in touch with the Canadian Embassy to let them know what we are doing and are hosting a 'business connection event' for RWC visitors (of any nationality) through the business connections initiative running parallel to the RWC.

Freeze EVOO and use as a spread

  • Fill a small bowl with Extra Virgin Olive Oil and place it in the freezer.  When frozen transfer it into the fridge, it will remain solid and be spreadable.
  • You can then use it in place of your regular spread and taste the difference.
