Telegraph Hill Olive Estate can be found tucked away in the Te Mata Hills, overlooking Havelock North in Hawke's Bay. The property consists of 17 acres of rolling well-drained land facing due north. It is surrounded by vineyards producing some of the best wines in the country.
Today the area consists of 2050 trees of Barnea, Manzanillo, South Australian Verdale, Frantoio and Picholene olives. Most of the grove is irrigated. They are well fertilised and protectively sprayed in spring and autumn with copper spray. The grass is grazed and there is minimum use of other sprays as up to now the trees have been very healthy.
The grove faces north to capture each and every ray of sunlight from dawn to dusk. While the sun is an essential ingredient in the making of great olives so too is the soil - our soil is free draining and perfect in pH and fertility.
The result: perfect conditions for producing distinctively large and delectably flavoursome Telegraph Hill olives. These olives are used both for table olives and the production of intensely flavoured, distinctively recognisable Telegraph Hill extra virgin olive oil.
This beautiful cold pressed oil is a blend of two olive varieties, Barnea and Manzanillo.
